Emerald Youth foundation is a Christian, urban youth and community ministry in Knoxville, TN serving over 2,700 young people annually. Emerald Youth’s ministry is implemented through a network of more than 18 churches and faith-based organizations to raise up a large number of urban youth who love Jesus Christ and become effective leaders who help renew their communities.


Calling and Career Ministry Volunteer Positions

TIMES: School Year: 3 days a week; 1 or more hours a week; 4 - 7 p.m. Summer: Mentor Opportunities Only
COMMITMENT: School year preferred, but one school semester accepted; or summer program

MENTOR
Work one-on-one with a young adult to provide support in the areas of faith, learning, and health. Help navigate new situations and learn necessary skills to be successful in their college and career pathway.

TUTOR OR HOMEWORK HELP
Help high school age young people as needed with homework (during school year). Facilitate and/or support related activities to prepare students for ACT exams in a particular subject area (math, science, reading, english). English/Spanish tutors needed.

WORKSHOP LEADER
Facilitate and/or support related activities to share a special skill, share professional experience/career path, share skill development and career opportunities.

PROGRAM SUPPORT
Be present during general program time to support youth and activities. Chaperone field trips.


JustLead Ministry Volunteer Positions

TIMES: School Year: weekdays at least 1 hour between 3:00 - 5:30 p.m. Summer: at least 1 hour during the day on weekdays from 9:00 - 3:00 p.m.
COMMITMENT: School year preferred, but one school semester accepted; or summer program

TUTOR
Work one-on-one or in small groups with elementary or middle school age young people in a specific subject area. Help elementary and middle school age young people as needed with homework (during school year).

PROGRAM SUPPORT
Be present during general program time to support youth and activities. Chaperone field trips. Be a Behavior Buddy who is paired up with a young person who needs extra support.

Help elementary school age young people as needed with homework (during school year)


Wednesday Night Programs

TIMES: Wednesday Evenings
COMMITMENT: For small groups - through end of school year and/or summer

SMALL GROUPS, PROVIDE/SERVE FOOD, WORSHIP LEADER/MUSICIAN
Lead or participate in any one of the aforementioned activities for elementary, middle and high school age young people.


Sports Volunteer Positions

Baseball, Basketball, Golf, Performance Training, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Track, Volleyball, and Wrestling

TIMES: Weekday evening practices/games (2-3x a week) held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday.
Weekends depending on the sport.
COMMITMENT: 2-5 hours a week per season

COACH
Plan practices, attend games, communicate with parents and players.
Actively interact with and encourage players.

SCOREKEEPER
Keep electronic clock and/or books during games

Due to the nature of Emerald Youth’s work, background checks are completed on all volunteers serving directly with youth.  If selected to volunteer with Emerald Youth Foundation, you will be asked to complete a confidential online authorization form. Releasing your social security number to Emerald Youth Foundation is a required part of this authorization form. The submission of a background screening does not guarantee a volunteer position.
