Sophie is from Amarillo, Texas and is the second of five children. She attended Tascosa High there and after graduation left to study Business Administration in Lubbock, Texas at Texas Tech University earning her degree in three years. During her college years, Sophie worked at an afterschool program called “Kids After School” as their assistant director. Recently, she worked as a leadership intern for Pine Cove Christian Summer Camps in Georgia. 

While working at Pine Cove, Sophie fell in love with the Southeast and decided to live here. That desire, coupled with her passion for youth discipleship in underserved areas, led her to Emerald. She believes it is our mission as Christians to model Christ’s care for those on the outskirts of many communities and is honored to partner with the Lord to create “spaces for discipleship and spiritual growth” for kids who are so often marginalized.

The scripture that is most meaningful to Sophie is Isaiah 32. She looks to it to inform her steps because it encourages believers to be “streams of water” for a desert world by sharing the good news and by being a refuge for the lost and afflicted.

Sophie enjoys a good steak as she once attempted the Big Texan 72oz Steak Challenge. She also enjoys competing at board games and party games and playing pickleball and spike ball. She loves spending time outside walking and hiking. Because she is an extrovert, Sophie usually spends her free time with others, especially her dog, Banjo. So, if you need an “Elf on the Shelf” at your next Christmas party, invite Sophie, because she loves to spend time with people and, according to her, she can look like a remarkably accurate elf!
