Chrystal Armstrong Brown brings more than 15 years of experience in nonprofit organizations, educational institutions and federal programs to the role of VP of Program Development. Her early career and ministry experience centered around the development and implementation of programs for at-risk and socially/economically disadvantaged youth in Knoxville.
Chrystal earned her Bachelor of Arts in English-rhetoric and writing and Africana studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Chrystal is also a certified grant writer who taught grantsmanship, program evaluation and grant consulting at UT for several years. Most recently, Chrystal served as the director of education for the United Way of Southwest Virginia, leading the Childhood Success and Youth Success community impact initiatives for a 17-county service area, reaching more than 35,000 students.
She also served as the director of development and corporate relations for AgeOptions, a nonprofit serving over 520,000 older adults and their families in the Greater Chicago area. During her tenure in Chicago, Chrystal was responsible for reporting, monitoring/compliance and technical assistance with 45 funded agencies, as well as oversight of the organization’s communications and corporate development strategy.
Chrystal served as the first youth pastor at Overcoming Believers Church and continues in ministry under its covering. She is driven by a sincere desire that every young person in Knoxville will fully accept God's love, understand His purposes, live in His will and experience the abundant life and inheritance promised to His children.
