Kaylin was born and raised in East Knoxville and graduated from Austin-East High School. He received a scholarship to run track at East Tennessee State University, where he graduated in 2004 with a degree in human development & learning and a minor in early childhood education. He is currently pursuing his master's degree in sport management with a concentration in sport administration from Liberty University Online.

Kaylin married his college sweetheart, Erica, and they have 3 children: Makaja, Kaylin & Mason. He also has a granddaughter: Mahani. Kaylin is active in his church, Children of God Ministries in Mechanicsville. He is a "true UT Vol football fan" and also likes to cheer on the Boston Red Sox.
